Talking to Your Kids
Talking about Puberty – Adolescents experience multiple changes at a rapid pace when going through puberty. Knowing what to talk about with a child and at what age may provide a child with adequate tools to adjust to his or her changing body and environment.
Deterring Drug Use – When children are uncomfortable discussing issues with parents, they are more likely to gather information from unreliable sources such as peers and the media. It is important to inform children on the dangers and consequences of drug use to ensure a safe and healthy life.
Alcohol – Research indicates that more than 80 percent of U.S. high school students have experimented with alcohol. Talking to children about the short and long term consequences of underage drinking may discourage premature alcohol abuse and aid them in making good decisions.
